Bedside-Scan

Match samples to patients at the bedside and digitally document collection: staff ID cards, patient wristbands and sample labels are scanned in sequence to verify matching. Bedside-Scan combines D-Flow Mobile with a web application developed by our team and the existing clinical backend. The solution is already in use at a customer site.

Workflow

How Bedside-Scan works

  1. Identify the staff member: Scan the staff ID card and complete additional authentication if required.
  2. Identify the patient: Scan the code on the patient wristband.
  3. Verify the samples: Scan one or more sample labels in sequence. The connected backend checks whether each sample belongs to the patient and the order.
  4. Document collection: Once verification succeeds, collection is recorded directly in the backend with the sample scan, including the time and staff member.

If a sample does not match the patient, the application displays an error. The assignment is rejected and the scan attempt is logged. The sample is not recorded as successfully collected.

Features

Support for everyday clinical workflows

Verify matching at the bedside

Patient and sample data are checked in the backend during the scanning workflow.

Trace sample collection

Successful matches and failed attempts are recorded with the time and staff member.

Capture multiple samples

Sample tubes and other sample containers can be scanned one after another.

Review your own activity

A personal history shows scans that have already been processed.

Integration

Mobile app, web application and backend

D-Flow Mobile provides device capabilities such as the camera, code scanner and torch. RFID can be used depending on the available hardware.

The web application developed by our team runs within the mobile app. It guides users through the workflow and exchanges data with the customer's backend through defined interfaces.

The connected backend handles validation and persistent storage. Existing hospital and laboratory systems remain the systems of record. Laboratory orders and sample labels continue to be created in the preceding process.

Deployment

Integration into your infrastructure

Bedside-Scan can be hosted within your infrastructure. The mobile app can be configured centrally through mobile device management. Interfaces and authentication are adapted to your existing systems.

An active connection to the hospital network and the connected systems is required. The Bedside-Scan workflow is designed for online use.
